UNIKL MIDI’S ALUMNUS CHALLENGES STEREOTYPES, JOINS MILITARY TO APPLY EXPERTISE

“As a graduate of the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Institute of Education (IPMa), it is entirely possible to work in the private sector within your chosen field or based on your degree.

“However, within the government sector, particularly in uniformed agencies like the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), there are units directly related to the courses offered by universities, particularly Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL),” stated Muhammad Fahmey Mej(B) Abd Rahman, who has now been commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.

He is a Bachelor Engineering Technology (Honours) in Manufacturing System graduate from the Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Italy Design Institute (UniKL MIDI).

Muhammad Fahmey’s career transition from being a Senior General Engineer at a rubber goods manufacturing company to joining the military challenges prevailing stereotypes.

“I made the decision to join the MAF in order to apply the technology and skills I acquired at UniKL in a military context, all while enhancing my self-discipline when it comes to task execution.

“The unit I will embark upon in the military also plays a significant role in managing the country’s mechanical assets, which encompasses both weaponry and vehicle assets. This involves a range of theoretical skills, including mathematical calculations, theoretical hydraulics and pneumatics, and thermodynamics,” he explained.

Muhammad Fahmey was officially commissioned as a cadet officer on October 7th, following a 10-month training programme that commenced on November 29th of the previous year.

The commissioning ceremony was graced by the presence of the Sultan of Kedah, Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah.

Following his commissioning, Muhammad Fahmey will commence his duties within the Rejimen Artileri Diraja on November 1st.

Changing his mindset from that of a civilian to a military officer was one of the most challenging tasks, as he attests.

“It involves engaging in military-related exercises, such as weapon handling, long-distance radio communication, forest-based attack and defense training, and physically demanding activities like long-distance marches,” he elaborated.

Simultaneously, he encourages those who are interested to consider pursuing a career in the military field, emphasizing that it not only allows them to apply their knowledge but also serves as a means to contribute as one of the nation’s assets, always prepared to defend the country.
